Next up… June

Things are winding down around here. This week was finals week for Caleb so he didn’t have as much preparing to do. He did have a two-day social distanced teacher caravan to visit every academy student’s home to deliver yearbooks and treats and well wishes. We joined him on the first day. Graduation is this weekend and then he just has “post-week” next week to finalize grades and organize his room and have some final staff meetings. Going along with that, our schooling scaled back even more this week. It was our last week of doing History and we only have one lesson left in our science unit on rocks. We do still have a week or two to finish our Bible curriculum but that’s fine because we will continue to have morning worship all summer. When we finish reading through Revelation we’ll switch to a kids devotional for the rest of the summer.

Fun things we did included going up to our property in Paradise and cutting back some of the weeds, making chocolates and orange juice, going boysenberry picking with grandparents, and having fresh berries over ice cream. We are so ready for summer!

One of his last naps. His last official nap time was on Thursday. Now we’re having quiet times and bedtime closer to 7 rather than between 9 and 10.
Cas has learned not to rip a book out of Ari’s hands and instead to ask her to read it to him. He’s gotten several extra story times that way and she gets to continue her book in peace.
Testing out several different rocks in the sink….
and discovering that pumice floats!
Cas took off with the wedgits this week. He can now do all the green challenge cards and half the blue challenge cards all by himself.
After sweeping and mopping, Cas wanted to put all the chairs back himself. So he did.
Another spontaneous story time!
We gave some neighbors some of our berry haul…so one of them gave us some ice cream. Yumm!
We were given a lot of oranges on Tuesday..and Cas really wanted to make orange juice with them. He and daddy have now made orange juice twice! We don’t have a juicer so they blend it and then strain the juice through a towel.
Who needs a playground to be a monkey?

Overall it’s been a good week. I have more resources for helping to teach my kids and myself to be an ally and fight racism. I’m coming to terms with my contract. We are finding ways to be with family and friends while minimizing risks and…summer is just around the corner! These couple of months of having Caleb home all day is such a wonderful blessing for our family. We get to just enjoy being together and organize our home and reset before diving in anew in August.

What are you looking forward to this summer?

Books we read (that I caught the titles…Ari reads a lot now):

  2. Yay for summer!
I’m looking forward to swimming, homemade frozen pops & making friendship bracelets. These are the things that remind me of summers when I was a kid!
Hopefully we can get together sometime soon…!
