Leaf Week!

L is for leaves! Most of the leaves around here are still green but we had fun with them anyway! We sketched trees, made leaf rubbings, leaf prints, traced leaves, pressed leaves, sorted leaves, made leaf crowns and leaf animals. We drew trees, observed what happens if you put a branch of leaves in a plastic bag (it gets wet) and observed what happens to a leaf if it is removed from its plant (it dries up and turns brown). We read Leaf Man, Leaf Jumpers, the Magic School Bus Wild Leaf Ride, My “L” Book, and Caps for Sale (the clear favorite).

To finish off Ari’s study of California Native Americans we made acorn cake…because many California tribes used acorns for food. Now she is studying early California explorers like Cabrillo.

Next is A for apple! Give me all your apple ideas and books!

  1. Oh fun! Cas’ curriculum is awesome!
We’ve used apples cut in half and dipped in paint as stamps. I love how those apple prints turn out. We bought one of each apple variety we could find for apple taste testing.
Books: “How to Make an Apple Pie and See the World”, “Give Ne An Apple and I’ll Make You a Pie”, “Johnny Appleseed” by Reeve Lindbergh and “Applesauce Season”
