Time for our annual visit to the pumpkin patch! We went out to our regular patch this year with our co-op friends. We enjoyed all the animals but especially the bee hive. I’ve been reading Bessie Bee to my kids every morning and so they were really interested in seeing the hive. They picked out the queen bee right away and would comment on when she was laying eggs and they were able to find her maids. With a little more watching they found bees making honey comb, nurse bees, bee larvae, honey cells, water cells, air conditioner bees, bees taking out the trash, and bees doing a nectar dance. At the end of our time, the last thing they wanted to do was go watch the bees one more time. This year our favorite patch had a kids corn maze and the regular corn maze. All the kids had fun in the kids maze, and climbing the hay bale pyramid to go down the slide, and playing in the stock tank full of corn. Finding our pumpkins was more of a challenge this year because we came so early. Not many paths had been tramped through the pumpkin patch and the vines were still quite tall. It was actually a lot of fun because Cas usually selects the first pumpkin he sees (he basically did the same thing this year but it took longer for him to find his first pumpkin). Ari wanted a “different” pumpkin so it took longer for her to find one. After lunch and pumpkin picking our friends left but then my sister joined us to do the big corn maze. We let the kids lead the way which means we did our maze at a jog and finished it in about half an hour. As usual, we had a great time and will certainly be back next year!

What’s your favorite part of a pumpkin patch?
What an awesome pumpkin patch experience! My favorite part of our favorite pumpkin patch is the food, and looking at the huge variety of squash and pumpkins. It does not have spooky stuff (at least it didn’t last time I went) which is another reason I like it. 🎃
