Turtle Week

This week was T for turtle and also for perseverance using Aesop’s fable of the tortoise and the hair. We made turtle snacks, pretended to be turtles with box shells, and made a turtle craft. We read several books. Favorites were Yertle the Turtle, Big Turtle, The Tortoise and the Hare, and Oopsy-Daisy. It was also a week with field trips and outreach. We went to the Maidu museum and learned a lot more about the Native Americans specific to our area of California. We went to a local wildlife refuge and saw lots of birds migrating south for the winter. We also went to an assisted living facility and sang and mingled with some retirees who were very happy to have young visitors after the long covid hiatus. Finally, we joined the Love Paradise event and the kids and I washed cars and my husband led a group of students to do landscaping at a local charter school.

And for a quick house update…we got our drywall installed, then our drywall sub abandoned…but our door sub immediately gave us the name of another drywall sub…which ended up being a much better drywall sub overall. I have moved a good 80-90 boxes of joint compound this week! They did such a good job on our ceilings that we decided to hire them to finish all our walls instead of using our plastermax. So our drywall is almost ready for painting, just has sanding left which they think will take one day and we’ll be ready to prep for painting. Our pocket door has finally been framed in and installed, and our scaffolding should finally come down this week and then we can get our patio poured. Progress is happening.

Our next unit is U for us…covering our senses and also the rainbow of colors people are born with, focus text being that we are fearfully and wonderfully made. Any great ideas for activities or books?
