This is not the post I’d hoped to write today. We were scheduled to have our final inspection today. We had done everything our regular inspector said we needed to do and then he would pass us. He failed to mention that he isn’t the person who does final inspections. He said that we could say we were doing our exterior grading during landscaping and that our downstairs bathroom didn’t have to be finished if the upstairs one was…but the inspector who does final inspections…said grading needs to be done and downstairs bathroom needs to be completely finished including the decorative tile. Also found several minor fixes. So our amazing contractor friends and my husband are still over there trying to finish things at 11pm tonight. I’ve dragged the kids through Home Depot twice this afternoon/evening fetching needed parts, I used a shovel and rake until after dark trying to help grading happen, and I fixed one of the minor issues: adding insulation to the hot water pipe leaving the hot water heater. Of course we discover when installing the shower tiles that…I didn’t calculate enough extra for the waste after pieces are cut so…we’re short a box of tiles and they aren’t a kind you can just run out and buy, you have to order them online. Amazon does carry them too but not with 2 day shipping…so we’re going to try calling the company in the morning to see if they will overnight the tiles to us. And we’re scheduling another “final” inspection for Thursday…we’ll see if it lives up to its name.
In other news, our ant factory finally arrived. It has been very interesting watching them dig tunnels and rearrange tunnels and explore their ant factory. We haven’t finished G for Goat week and may not for another week or so. We have read a couple fun books: Little Apple Goat and Pete the Kitty meets Farm Animals and My “g” book have been favorites. We’re also in a big Elephant and Piggie phase right now. Cas can now read them independently and Ari loves them as well so I’ll often find both of them reading a book together, each of them voicing one of the characters and it’s very fun. We also did a field trip to a local petting zoo/farm and the kids had a great time petting and holding the animals. Some animal therapy was very needed with all the house craziness going on.

Hope you enjoyed our adventures!
Oh man, sorry to hear about the last minute delays, time crunch, and extra work before your next final inspection! If only these events went according to plan.
Hoping the Thursday inspection runs smoothly!! You guys have been working so hard. Kudos to you for your positivity and diligence.
We had an art farm once…word of advice…don’t keep the lid open for too long, because those ants move fast and they’ll never go back into the farm.

Ya it’s been a long journey but God has a plan. Good news is they gave us a certificate of occupancy on Thursday but along with a list of stuff to fix/finish by next Friday or it can be revoked but what she gave us will work for the bank even if they revoke it later but the list is doable.
Thanks for the advice on the ant farm! It was exciting enough putting the ants in the farm that the kids definitely aren’t opening the top. They’re scared of being stung. I do the feeding and watering. It will be exciting moving them in a couple weeks.

That’s reassuring to know that the list is “doable.” Whew…what a journey for you guys and I bet you’re learning so much about the homebuilding process. Not for the faint hearted.
You’re right. God has a plan for all the inconveniences and obstacles, which isn’t easy to accept when you’re in the midst of it. But your optimistic spirit is admirable.
Ants are incredible and so busy all day! Have fun with the process.
