Ski Lesson

I’ve been wanting to have my kids learn how to ski. Before Covid we had started taking the kids to a very kid-friendly location and done a little bit to get them used to what skis felt like and such but we hadn’t gone back since 2019. My second sister has started learning how to teach other-abled kids how to ski and her boyfriend has been teaching them for several years so we asked them for help teaching our kids how to ski. We hadn’t been able to find a time that would work last year, but they were here visiting for Christmas so we decided to do it then. Of course…there was almost no snow at Christmas. Our first two preferences for taking the kids had no snow and so weren’t open. We ended up going to the same kid-friendly location we had gone before…and the whole drive there was no snow, until we came around the corner and there was some snow! Plus the location has it’s own snow machines so they added some to what was there naturally. Our kids had a great time and made great progress in their skiing ability. Cas learned to turn and stop and demonstrated his prowess so he could ride the carpet to the top of the kids hill…and then decided his favorite way to ski is to tuck and race straight down the little hill and stop by flopping onto his back. He clearly could still turn because he would turn to go around other kids in his way but he loved the speed. Ari set very high standards for herself and got a little more frustrated in the middle but once she learned how to pizza she was happy and also did a couple good runs down the hill. We ended by all tubing on the tubing hill and they both had a blast. We’re hoping to get them up to the snow at least 2 more times this winter to help them develop their skills.

Have you taught your kids to ski? How did you do it?
