Sun Week!

We started easing into our school year at the beginning of August. Here we are in September so I thought I’d share some of what we did.

Cas’ core is My Father’s World Kindergarten. It has themes that go for about a week and a half based around a letter…after the intro theme which is Creation. So we eased in on Creation and now are going full throttle. His first theme was S is for Sun. We made our own sundial and tracked the time with it, sprouted seeds with one jar by a window and the other jar in the closet, traced our shadows at various times to see how they grew or shrunk, read books and tried to make raisins. That last one didn’t work because…the wild animals kept eating our grapes.

Ari’s core is California History. We eased into the school year with animals that lived in California but are extinct now and learned about some really interesting animals! Then we studied the native American tribes that lived in California. There are a lot of them! So we’ve read books and watched youtube videos to get a general overview and then Ari is making a lapbook about the Gabrielino Luiseno to learn about one tribe in depth. As usual, we’re having a good time.

We’re still too busy to add in art, music and Spanish but I’m hoping we can add those in as soon as possible! Next is moon week…know any fun activities to go with the moon?
