This week was M is for Moon week for Cas. We built the letter M with cuisenaire rods, we read books about the moon from the library, we made the phases of the moon with oreos, we built a rocket ship fort, sketched the moon every night to see how it changed, discovered how far we would be able to jump on the moon, watched a video of Neil Armstrong’s moon landing, used models to see how far the moon is from Earth and how big it is comparatively, played in the space exhibit of the local children’s museum, and used a flashlight and a mirror to show how the moon has light and then talked about how that compares to us as Christians reflecting Jesus light to the world.
Cas’ favorite books were A Big Mooncake for Little Star, Over the Moon, Happy Birthday Moon and My “m” Book. We also read The Moon Might be Milk and The Moon, but those each got read once while his favorites were read…many times. Ari joined in on the fun. She finished her unit on the native Americans…except she still has some work to do on her lapbook. We started our unit on the explorers and read about Columbus and Balboa. She loves books and is enjoying her unit very much.

Next week we start L for leaf. Any ideas? Leaves here in California aren’t changing color yet so…the unit is a little early for us but we’ll find things to do anyway 🙂
They are learning so much!

My fave leaf activity is making leaf rubbings with paper and crayons.
“Fletcher and the Falling Leaves” is a fun picture book. Having a leaf sampler (lettuce, cabbage, spinach, basil, mint, beet greens…) for snack time would be fun. Happy homeschooling friends! 😊🍃
